Looking Out

John Bilderback is an internationally recognized ocean sports photographer.  A SURFER Magazine Senior Staff photographer for twenty years on the infamous North Shore of Oahu, his photographs have been on dozens of covers and hundreds of magazine pages. His lifelong love for the ocean has taught him to care deeply about stewardship of the land as well. When the voyaging canoe Hokule'a came to Haleiwa, he became captivated by the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage, and the mission drew him in. Describing it as 'the greatest group of people' and 'the most meaningful project' he's ever been part of, he is now traveling extensively to shoot a book about the voyage, along with writer Jennifer Allen, which will be published by Patagonia in the fall of 2017. He is also training to become a crew member.

what i do

ACTION:

A former Senior Staff Photographer at SURFER Magazine for twenty years, and Official Triple Crown of Surfing Photographer, I'm now a Staff Photographer for Kiteworld Magazine.   -    I have shot ocean action professionally most of my life.     And I love it.

PEOPLE:

It a passion to shoot people in my studio and on location, faces to full length figures from the intimate to the innovative.

PRODUCTS:

Having worked on every kind of shoot from food to fashion to autombiles I've learned to love a challenge.  No product is too big, too small or too intricate for me and my studio.
